Visit to Southern Bukovina.

On the 29th of January representatives of the Chernivtsi Museum of the History and Culture of Bukovinian Jews paid a short visit to the town of Radautz (Romania). The aim of this trip, which had been planned for a long time, but was repeatedly postponed for different reasons, was getting to know the life of a local Jewish community and outstanding points of Jewish history and culture of the town.

During the staying there was a meeting with the head of Radautz Jewish community Igo Kofler, a visit to the Jewish community center, the old synagogue "Templul Mare" and the museum room, opened at the synagogue in July 2012.

We are glad to mention that in a course of conversation representatives of Jews in the Romanian part of Bukovina showed their deep awareness of a necessity to preserve Jewish historical and cultural heritage on both sides of the border as this heritage is unique and indivisible. They have also expressed their readiness to make all necessary efforts to gain this, including in framework of bilateral projects. By shared opinion signing an agreement on cooperation should be the first step on this way.

Mykola Kushnir, the director of the museum, invited Mr. Igo Kofler, who, by the parental line, has Chernivtsi roots, to visit Chernivtsi and acquaint with materials of our museum's exhibition.
