The second international volunteers' camp finished its work

The second international volunteers' camp of German organization Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste (Action Reconciliation Service for Peace), held in Chernivtsi, supported by Chernivtsi Museum of the History and Culture of Bukovinian Jews, has finished its work. The ten days of the camp's program were filled with various activities. The participants of the camp got to know the rich cultural heritage of Bukovina, visited places connected with the life of the Chernivtsi Jewish community in the pre-war time and the Jewish Museum, and had trips to Khotyn and Kamyanec-Podilsky and meetings with representatives of local Jewish organizations.

The work at the Jewish cemetery in Zelena str. was the most important part of the volunteers' activity. The cemetery is today, unfortunately, in terrible condition. Though volunteers didn't aim to clean the entire cemetery, which area is approximately 15 hectares, their symbolic work is noticeable at once.

We hope that this kind of cooperation will last and Chernivtsi Museum of the History and Culture of Bukovinian Jews will always be ready to collaborate with all interested sides concerning the continuation of this work for the community.

This is how the cemetery had looked like before the volunteers started their work.

The work of volunteers is noticeable at once.
